Challenges and pitfalls of data analysis and statistical testing

Course Description:

The seminar is intended to provide a practice-oriented overview and guidelines of the pitfalls and challenges of data analysis. This will cover various topics including for example basic knowledge on statistical significance, design of experiments, different options for data presentation, the effect of random vs. systematic errors on your results, basic requirements for calculations. This will be exemplified by various (mostly real) examples for how easily things can go utterly wrong.

The course consists of 2 individual sessions, the contents of which build on each other. Participation in both parts of the course is required for the award of credit points.
